Wondering what to expect at your newborn photoshoot?
So you have booked your newborn photoshoot just after your 20 week scan. 4 months later, you finally get to meet your baby! You have dropped me a line to announce the arrival of your baby and confirm a date and time for your newborn photoshoot with Esther Nichols Photography. How exciting! The day of your photoshoot arrives and suddenly you think of a ton of questions about how this is actually going to work! Fresh from giving birth, its you and your newborn. Its all a bit overwhelming. So, with this in mind, once you have booked your session with me, I send you information on what to expect at your newborn photo shoot.
– On the morning of the shoot it is advisable to try and keep baby awake for as long as possible before the shoot and feed just before your photoshoot begins, so baby should be sleepy and relaxed once we are ready to start.
– If you have chosen a Lifestyle photoshoot in your home, I’ll capture special moments with each family member and the baby as well as the family all together. If siblings are involved, we usually take care of those photos
first so that they can go and play during the rest of the session. There will also be time for photos of the
baby alone. These are usually done when the baby is sleepiest and while I’ll pose the baby a little, I keep it
very natural. I take photos of babies swaddled in my newborn wraps or undressed. I use minimal posing, my
style is very organic. I will take shots preferably in the nursery, master bedroom, and living room. All you
need to do to prepare is open the blinds/curtains to let in as much light as possible. Please also turn up the
heat! Even though it may be warm outside, babies tend to be most comfortable at the shoot if they’re nice and
warm. If you’re sweating, it’s probably perfect! The only thing I will ask you to do is have your bed made.
Your bed makes for a great place for family photos!
– If you have chosen a studio photoshoot at my home, I will focus on capturing slightly styled photographs of your baby, using my beautiful blankets and wraps. You can choose up to three different backdrops and I will
take very natural photographs of your baby, capturing all the newborn details of your baby that you want to
hold onto in your memory forever!!! My home studio will be nice and warm for your baby so they will feel
comfortable and sleepy. My home studio really is a ‘home from home’ experience. I’ll have everything you
need and it’s super comfortable for you too. I am limited for space in my home studio but you are welcome to
bring one person with you if you wish.
– Newborns are unpredictable and this shoot is all about them. Please do not worry about your baby crying or needing to feed during the shoot—newborn sessions are purposely longer to allow for plenty of breaks. With regards to what to wear at a Lifestyle photoshoot, I recommend keeping it simple and comfortable. Neutral, light (creams, whites, greys or pastel tones) work best. Stay away from logos or writing on clothing.
This is such a special time in your family’s life. I will take your baby’s lead and allow him/her to be the
focus of the shoot. If your baby cries, please remember it’s ok. Just focus on soothing and relaxing your
little one and we will continue when baby is ready.
At any time before your session you feel you would like to discuss anything over the phone, then we can schedule a time to chat at your convenience. Just let me know when is good for you!
I only have a limited of sessions available each month. Contact me today to see if your due date is still available.
